Can Llouquette is situated in the most southerly
valley in France before you enter Spain, which is so close it is
definitely worth a few day trips to explore.
From Prats de Mollo the
road proceeds over the breath-taking border at Col D'Ares and
down
into Spain (with exceptional views back to the massif of Mount
Canigou and down the Vallespir valley towards the coast and Perpignan).
Beget village
(1 hr), along a smaller road east prior to reaching Camprodon.
It is a delightful small village replete with
restaurants and plenty of spaces to enjoy the gorgeous mountain
views.
There is also a renowned restaurant (where Carreras
and Domingo have dined) in the small hamlet of Roca Bruna (40 mins),
a few miles before you reach Beget, which is well worth a visit
- but don't expect lunch to be anything less than 4 hours!
Camprodon (40
mins) is the first town over this border and here you will find
some of the best Catalan delicatessens in the region: justifiably
famous for their mountain-air cured sausages.
